The Great Escape

Whether finally escaping the confines of their chrysalis for their first flight or escaping colder climates on their annual butterfly migration to warmer shores, I wanted to convey a sense of both freedom and chaos whilst ironically also creating an artwork with a sense of peace and calm.

The 3-dimensional aspect creates beautiful shadows which give the artwork a real sense of movement – a life of its own – and changes throughout the day in changing light situations. I have used gorgeous papers, many with sheens and glitters & multiple 24crt gold leaf butterflies which adds to this effect and gives it sparkle and preciousness.
